What the unit does The General & Visceral Surgery Department is a multidisciplinary service run by seven senior surgeons, two associate surgeons and one resident, and directed by Pr Fabrizio Panaro.
> All visceral surgical specialities are represented with the exception of urological, cardiovascular surgery and neurosurgery.
> This surgery activity includes inpatient scheduled surgery, outpatient surgery and emergency surgery.
> Gastrointestinal surgery is supervised by the Medical Surgical Department for Diseases of the Digestive System.
> The very significant oncological surgical activity is coordinated by the 3C (Oncology Coordination Centre).
> Surgical emergencies are treated 24 hours a day by the on-duty surgeon. The chart below shows how the department is organised.
